The Antioxidant Power Of The Acai Berry

Studies will always have varying results - but when it comes to research done on the Acai berry and its nutritional formula - almost every study in existence agrees. This humble berry - found in the heart of the Amazonian rain forest in Brazil, has an incredible array of oxidant fighting components and virus / bacteria fighting compounds.

This is all very well, but what we actually need in a situation such as this is solid proof. And where there is a need, there is a supply. We did indeed take some Acai berries in to a laboratory for intensive testing, and the results of the experiments are now on hand.

Not often do we conclude the findings at the beginning of the article, but in this case it is prudent to do so. It was found, after testing of many different things, that the Acai berry was in fact one of the most nutritious super foods in existence today. The potency of the antioxidants included in 100g of berries was almost 5 times that of comparable berries such as grapes and blueberries - which, if you know your berries, is a lot!

Exact Antioxidants Defined

Knowing that the potency of the antioxidants in Acai berries is impressive, it is time to go a little bit further, and give a breakdown of what these antioxidants actually are. Firstly, you have to understand that not all oxidants are the same. Just because a product has antioxidants, doesn't meant that those included will be effective against all the different types.

Thankfully though, the Acai berry has a vast array of antioxidants, which together target almost the entire range of nasties within the human body. They do this by circulating themselves in the bloodstream, and latching on to anything which they may come in to contact with. Antioxidants are drawn to specific cells in the body - those which are floating around with bad things also attached to them. Hence, by attaching themselves and destroying the entire cell - the oxidant is also removed.

Whilst this may sound a little drastic - remember that the human body has an incredible number of cells, and hence the destruction of a relative few of them due to the antioxidant is actually a very good thing. We produce new cells each and every day - hence these lost ones are readily replaced by new, fully functioning ones.
